Women’s Basketball Travels To Stonehill

North Easton, MA - The Wagner College women's basketball team will travel to Stonehill on Monday afternoon, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.

Last Time Out
Wagner earned its first Northeast Conference (NEC) win of the season with a 75-66 win over LIU on Monday, January 8.
 

Wagner tallied 16 assists against LIU, the second-most in a game this season. Wagner's 60 percent shooting from three-point range was the highest mark of the season and the best shooting percentage from distance since November 28, 2021.

The Seahawks' 75 points was the second-most in a game this season.

Graduate student Taleah Washington netted a team and career-high 29 points against LIU. Washington shot 8-11 from the field and 5-6 from three-point range. Washington also had five rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Sophomore Angelie Ricard chipped in 11 points on 3-4 shooting from three-point range in the win.

Taleah Washington Continues To Impress
Washington's 29 points against LIU was the most for a Seahawk since former Seahawk Emilija Krista Grava tallied 32 on March 5, 2021. The District Heights, MD native connected on five three-pointers for the second time this season. It was also the second time she tallied over 20 points in a game.

Washington's 23 points and game-winning shot with two seconds remaining at Saint Peter's on December 6 propelled Wagner to its second win of the season. Washington shot 5-10 from distance against the Peacocks.

Washington also tallied 15 points in Wagner's NEC opener at Saint Francis U, she picked up her third NEC Prime Performer honor of the season with her efforts against Saint Francis U and LIU.

Washington has shot 8-10 from three-point range through conference play. Washington's 22.0 points per game through NEC play is tops in the circuit.

Washington's 10.6 points per game ranks 10th in the NEC.

Stealing History
Wagner tallied a program-best 30 steals in its final non-conference game against Saint Elizbeth on December 30, a record that stood since Wagner tallied 22 against Mount St. Mary's on February 9, 1983.

Along with 30 steals as a team, junior Rakisha Ballinger tallied 12 steals, a single game program record. Ballinger's 12 steals is the most in a single game across the country this season. Ballinger broke a record that stood since Shawn Martin tallied 11 steals against Hartford on December 28, 1987.

Wagner's 30 steals in a single game is the fifth-most across the nation this season.

Defensive DNA
Wagner ranks 45th in the nation with 19.64 turnovers forced per game and 66th in the nation with 9.9 steals per contest. The Seahawks rank first in the NEC in turnovers forced and steals per game. Wagner has recorded double-digit steals in five games this season.

Wagner has also forced double-digit turnovers in every game this season and has forced at least 20 in five games this season.

The Seahawks have four players ranked in the top-15 in the NEC in steals per game.

The Arrival Of Semie Brar
Despite being held to single digits in the first two conference games of the season, junior Semie Brar leads the Seahawks with 11.1 points per game.

Brar has tallied 20 points on three separate occasions this season, including a career-high 26 points against Iona on November 27. Brar's 32.4 three-point percentage ranks fourth in the NEC.

Scouting Stonehill
Stonehill earned their first win of the season with a 60-56 win over FDU on Saturday, January 13. The Skyhawks outscored the Knights 22-9 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Sharn Hayward poured in a team-high 16 points on 4-6 shooting from three-point range to lead the Skyhawks offensively. Jada Thornton chipped in 15 points and six rebounds against FDU.

Thornton leads Stonehill with 9.6 points per game, which ranks 13th in the NEC.

The Series
This will be the third all-time meeting between Wagner and Stonehill, both match ups took place last season. 

The home team won both match ups last season.

Last Season Against Stonehill
Wagner defeated Stonehill 84-53 on January 19, 2023 at the Spiro Sports Center. The win moved Wagner to 5-0 in NEC play, the best start to conference play in program history.

The Seahawks shot 7-12 from three-point range and 59.3 percent from the field in the victory.

The Skyhawks defeated the Seahawks 73-66 on February 23, 2023 at Merkert Gymnasium. Senior Julia Fabozzi led the way for Wagner with a team-high 20 points on 7-13 shooting from the field. Stonehill outscored Wagner 26-17 in the fourth quarter while holding Wagner to 6-19 shooting from the floor in the final frame.

What's Next
Wagner will begin a three-game home stand beginning on Friday, January 19 when they welcome Merrimack to the Spiro Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
