Lawrenceville, NJ - The Wagner women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat in its season opener at Rider on Thursday night.
Freshman Grace Morra, junior Olivia Rubbo and graduate student Juliana Rafaniello recorded shots on goal in the loss. Junior Claire Janis and graduate student Madison Carr compiled the remaining two shots for the Seahawks at one shot apiece.
Despite the 1-0 defeat, sophomore Shae McGinty recorded three saves and played all 90 minutes in the first start of her career. With just over four minutes remaining in the first half, the Levittown, NY, native made an impressive save to keep the score at 0-0 heading into halftime.
The Seahawks had chances as evidenced by their 10-1 corner kick advantage, but the Broncs would eventually score the lone goal of the match with 21 minutes left to play in the second half.Â
Wagner will look to bounce back on Sunday, August 20 when it takes on Fordham at 3:00 pm.
