Women's Soccer Defeats Le Moyne, 1-0, to Clinch Fourth Straight NEC Tournament Berth

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wagner College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Le Moyne on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field, clinching a spot in the 2026 NEC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and sixth time in program history.
Wagner (7-8-2, 6-3-0 NEC) wasted little time getting on the board, as junior Kelly Gallagher found the back of the net just 1:22 into the contest off an assist from sophomore Riley Frederick to give the Seahawks an early 1-0 advantage. The goal extended Gallagher's point streak to five consecutive games.

The Seahawks controlled the offensive action throughout the opening half, outshooting Le Moyne (5-12-1, 4-4-1 NEC) 8-1 while generating two corner kicks.

Wagner continued to apply pressure, as Frederick put a shot on goal in the fifth minute before junior Megan Knapp forced a save in the 39th minute. The Green & White took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

The Seahawks maintained their offensive momentum in the second half, with Megan Knapp putting another shot on goal in the 55th minute before junior Hailey Knapp forced a save in the 63rd minute.

Le Moyne looked to find the equalizer late in the contest, but junior goalkeeper Abigail Marcello made a save in the 90th minute to preserve Wagner's 1-0 advantage and secure the victory.

Wagner finished with a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in shots on goal. Gallagher and Megan Knapp led the Seahawks with three shots apiece, while Frederick added two.

Marcello finished with one save to record her seventh clean sheet of the season, as the Wagner defense held Le Moyne scoreless.

Prior to the contest, Wagner honored seniors Shae Allen, Caroline Kessler, Ava Pugliese and Alana Goldsmith for their contributions to the program during their time on Grymes Hill.

With the victory, Wagner secured its fourth consecutive NEC Tournament appearance and sixth in program history.

The four-team NEC Tournament will begin on Thursday, Nov. 12, with all four participating teams having already clinched their spots. With one day of conference games remaining and final seeding still to be determined, FDU sits atop the standings, followed by CCSU, Wagner and Stonehill.

The top two seeds will host the semifinal matchups, while the highest remaining seed will host the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Wagner will conclude the 2026 regular season at home on Sunday, Nov. 8, against Delaware State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Hameline Field, with live coverage available on NEC Front Row.
