Women’s Lacrosse Set To Take On LIU In The NEC Semifinals

Fairfield, CT – The Wagner College women's lacrosse team will take on LIU in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament semifinals on the campus of Sacred Heart on Thursday.

Hannan Goes Back-to-Back
Graduate student Aileen Hannan became the third player in NEC history to repeat as Defensive Player of the Year.

Hannan also becomes the first player in program history to repeat as Defensive Player of the Year and the third player in program history to earn the same individual honor in consecutive seasons.

Along with earning Defensive Player of the Year, Hannan earned First Team All-NEC for the third consecutive season. She also becomes the first player in program history to earn First Team honors in three consecutive seasons.

The Rockville, MD native finished second in the NEC with 27 caused turnovers and 1.93 caused turnovers per game. She also finished fifth with 2.64 ground balls per game and eighth with 3.57 draw controls per game. Hannan's ground ball and draw control totals ranked first on the Seahawks.

Hannan's ground balls per game rank 31st nationally as her caused turnovers per game totals rank 23rd in the nation.

DiStefano Makes History
Lauren DiStefano becomes the first Seahawk to garner Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the NEC with 3.21 ground balls per game. The West Islip, NY native finished second in the NEC in goals against average, save percentage and saves per game.

DiStefano's 9.89 goals against average ranks 20th in the nation while her 3.21 ground balls per game ranks seventh in the nation. DiStefano also earns All-NEC honors for the second consecutive season after earning Second Team honors last season.

Siverson And Greco Earn All-NEC Honors
Sophomore Katie Siverson picks up her first career All-Conference honor after finishing second on the Seahawks with 24 goals and fourth with 24 draw controls. The Morristown, NJ native scored at least one goal in the final eight games of the regular season.

Senior Megan Greco picks up her second career All-NEC honor after earning Second Team back in 2021. The Sound Beach, NY native led the Seahawks with 30 goals, 38 points, 49 shots on goal, a .492 shooting percentage and a .803 shot on goal percentage. Greco tallied at least one goal in all but two games this season and recorded at least one point in all but one game this season. She also recorded her 100th career point in the final game of the regular season.

Last Time Against LIU
Wagner defeated LIU at 8-5 Hameline Field on March 29. The Seahawks held the Sharks without a goal in the second half.

The Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the contest before the Seahawks outscored the Sharks 8-3 for the remainder of the game.

Megan Greco tallied a hat trick in the regular season meeting.

Recent Tournament History
Wagner will look to capture its fourth title overall and fourth since 2016. Wagner won the NEC crown in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Last season was the first season since 2014 the Green & White did not reach the NEC Championship game is they fell to eventual champions Mount St. Mary's in the semifinals.

Wagner has entered the NEC Tournament as the #2 seed six times since 2014 and won each NEC title was the #2 seed.

Wagner will try and be the sixth team in NEC history to win the crown as the preseason favorites.

About The NEC Tournament
After finishing conference play with a perfect 8-0 record, Sacred Heart will host the NEC Tournament. Wagner finished the regular season with a 7-1 conference record and will enter the tournament as the #2 seed.

LIU and Saint Francis U both ended the regular season with a 5-3 conference mark, but LIU defeated Saint Francis U to earn the #3 seed.

What's Next
The winner of the two semifinal contests will meet in the NEC Championship game on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 pm.
