Villanova, PA – The Wagner College women's water polo team moved to 10-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with two wins this weekend at Villanova.
The first game of the weekend for Wagner came against Marist, who was also 8-0 in conference play.
Both teams traded goals in the first quarter as the game went to the second quarter tied at four. The Red Foxes outscored the Seahawks 6-1 in the second quarter to take a 10-5 lead into halftime.
The Seahawks responded in the third quarter as they outscored the Red Foxes 6-2 behind two goals from senior
Skye Nankervis and junior
Andrea Arias. Graduate student
Malia Josephson and senior
Abbey Simshauser each chipped in one goal each in the third.
Marist held a 12-11 lead heading into the fourth quarter as Wagner outscored Marist 2-1 in the final regulation frame to force overtime.
Junior
Grace Coleman netted the winning goal in the second overtime to preserve the win for the Green & White.
Wagner wrapped up the weekend with a 20-12 win over Iona. Wagner outscored Iona 11-7 in the first half behind five goals from sophomore
Carlota Alonso.
Wagner put a stamp on the contest as they outscored Iona 4-1 in the third as junior
Mar Navarro tallied two goals in the frame.
The Seahawks outscored the Gaels 5-4 in the final frame to preserve the victory.
The two wins bring Wagner to 10-0 in MAAC play entering the final weekend of the regular season.
Wagner will conclude the regular season next weekend with three games at LIU. The Seahawks will take on Villanova and VMI on Saturday, April 15 before closing out the regular season against LIU on Sunday, April 16.
