Poughkeepsie, NY – The Wagner College women's water polo team advanced to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title game with a 27-11 win over Iona in the Semifinals on Saturday.
Wagner put a stamp on the contest in the first quarter as they outscored Iona 7-2 behind two goals from senior
Abbey Simshauser, junior
Andrea Arias and sophomore
Carlota Alonso.
Wagner kept its foot on the gas in the second quarter as they outscored Iona 9-3 to take a 16-5 lead into the second half.
In the third quarter, the Seahawks outscored the Gaels 5-3 behind a hat trick from
Andrea Arias in the frame.
The Green & White tallied six more goals in the fourth to earn the victory. The 31st victory ties the second-highest mark in program history.
The Seahawks will play for the MAAC crown on Sunday, April 30 at 1:00 pm against Marist or LIU.
