Plymouth Meeting, PA - The Wagner baseball team came up a run short in its midweek matchup against Villanova on Tuesday. The Seahawks had a runner in scoring position with two outs in the ninth, but couldn't score the runner to keep the game alive.
Wagner couldn't piece together a rally like it had done against Sacred Heart last weekend.
Junior Chris Conniff answered the opening score by the Wildcats with a solo shot to right field. Senior DiMaggio Cazares followed the home run up with a sacrifice fly three innings later to take a 2-1 advantage.
But Villanova flipped the script on the Seahawks and put together its own run. Four runs across the sixth and seventh innings put the Green & White in a late hole that they couldn't overcome.
Even with senior Dante Faicchio doubling in two runs in the eighth inning, the Seahawks still fell a run short of a comeback.
Junior Julian Taudin-Chabot drew the start and allowed just one run to cross home plate across four innings of work.
The Seahawks will look to rebound with another midweek matchup on Wednesday against Saint Peter's.
