Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team earned a 3-2 walk-off victory over Sacred Heart in 10 innings on Friday afternoon.
In the victory, graduate student
Eve Harvey became the third pitcher in Seahawk history to record 300 career strikeouts. Harvey earned the complete game victory, striking out three batters in 10 innings.
After the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Seahawks answered and took a 2-1 lead on a two-run single by graduate student
Mackenzie Vogler, which brought home senior
Bianca Worthy and sophomore
Justine Carranza.
Sacred Heart tied the game in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, where both teams could not get a run across until the bottom of the 10
th inning.
Worthy put the ball in play to lead off the inning, forcing a Sacred Heart error, which brought home freshman
Payton Janicki, who was the ghost runner at second base.
Vogler led the Seahawks with three hits, as Wagner held a 7-4 advantage in hits throughout the contest.
Both teams will continue their series with a doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 1:00 pm.
Prior to first pitch, the Seahawks will honor their senior class in a pregame ceremony.
