Newark, NJ – The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest at NJIT on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks opened up a 2-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from graduate student
Jack Brady and senior
Benjamin Stewart.
After holding a 2-0 lead after the first quarter, Wagner outscored NJIT 3-2 to take a 5-2 lead into halftime. Freshmen
Chase Alber and
Jake Mitchell tallied goals in the second as Alber found the back of the net twice.
The Highlanders outscored the Seahawks 3-2 in the third quarter as
Jack Brady netted his second goal of the day while sophomore
Carson Skinner got on the score sheet.
As the Seahawks held a 7-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter, NJIT launched a 3-0 run to take an 8-7 lead before
Benjamin Stewart tied the game at eight with 9:23 remaining.
After Stewart tied the game, the Highlanders ended the game on a 2-0 run to preserve the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Danny Brady stopped 19 shots in the contest while
Jack Brady,
Benjamin Stewart and
Chase Alber each netted two goals. Brady also chipped in an assist in the contest while Stewart launched a team-high 12 shots.
Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, March 11 when they open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at Marist at 7:00 pm.
