Poughkeepsie, NY – The Wagner College men's lacrosse team opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a 16-7 loss at Marist on Saturday evening.
Senior
Benjamin Stewart opened the scoring in the first quarter before the Red Foxes ended the opening frame on a 2-0 run to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
Wagner opened the second quarter on a 4-0 run behind two goals from Stewart along with sophomores
Conor Julich and
Patrick Caldwell. The run gave the Green & White a 5-2 lead before Marist tallied two goals in the final 91 seconds of the first half as Wagner took a 5-4 lead into the break.
The Red Foxes outscored the Seahawks 5-2 in the third quarter as senior
Eli Fisher found the back of the net while
Benjamin Stewart tallied his fourth goal of the night. Marist took a 9-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final stanza, Marist outscored Wagner 7-0 to earn the victory.
Stewart led the way offensively for Wagner with four goals on 12 shots.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, March 18 when they welcome Quinnipiac at Hameline Field at 12:00 pm.
