Philadelphia, PA – The Wagner College women's water polo team earned two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) wins on Saturday to move to 5-0 in conference play.
In a rematch of the 2022 MAAC Championship game, the Seahawks prevailed again over the Sharks with a 16-13 victory.
The Sharks outscored the Seahawks 5-4 in the first quarter as senior
Abbey Simshauser and graduate student
Malia Josephson tallied one goal each. Junior
Andrea Arias scored twice in the first frame for Wagner.
Wagner outscored LIU 4-2 in the second behind two goals from
Andrea Arias and one goal from
Abbey Simshauser and senior
Skye Nankervis.
Wagner held an 8-7 lead heading into halftime.
Wagner outscored LIU 4-1 in the third quarter behind three goals from
Abbey Simshauser and one goal from junior
Mar Navarro.
With a 12-8 lead entering the fourth quarter, Wagner was outscored 5-4 by LIU but was able to hold on for the victory.
Abbey Simshauser and
Andrea Arias combined for 11 out of the 16 Wagner goals in the contest.
In the second game of the day, the Seahawks earned a 15-12 victory over La Salle. The Green & White put a stamp on the contest in the second quarter as they outscored La Salle 5-1 to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.
Sophomore
Carlota Alonso scored three of her four goals in the third quarter as both teams tallied four goals.
Despite being outscored 6-4 in the fourth quarter, Wagner was able to hold on for the victory.
The two wins moves the Seahawks to 22-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
Wagner will be back in action on Thursday, March 30 in Princeton, NJ when they take on Princeton at 7:00 pm.
