New Britain, CT – The Wagner College softball team suffered a dramatic 4-3 loss at Central Connecticut in 13 innings on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double by graduate student
Penelope Russ in the first inning.
After the Blue Devils tied the game in the third, the Seahawks re-took the lead in the top of the seventh, with junior
Samantha Tran scoring on a CCSU error.
The Blue Devils, however, tied the game in the bottom half of the frame to send the game to extra innings.
In the 10
th, both teams brought the ghost runner across the plate, with sophomore
Justine Carranza providing the Wagner RBI.
Tied at 3-3, CCSU earned the walk-off win with an RBI single in the 13
th.
Graduate student
Eve Harvey was charged with the loss in the circle, pitching 12.0 innings and striking out five batters.
The Seahawks will host Stonehill next Saturday and Sunday for a three-game set, which will also mark Wagner's home-opener.
