Brooklyn, NY - The Wagner College Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams completed their 2022-2023 regular season, as the Seahawks took on the LIU Sharks.
On the women's side, Wagner defeated LIU with a final score of 172-90.
Senior Olivia Bishop, junior Abbie Hassell, and sophomore Annie Jencova took home first, second, and third, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 52.76, 53.87, and 54.37.
Freshman Aura Vilarrasa was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.06.
The women's team continued their winning streak as freshman Lia Vendel edged out sophomore Bree Anderson by .36 seconds in the 200-yard breaststroke. Seniors Taylor Marjamaa and Raquel Rubalcava Reyes also earned the two top spots in the 500-yard freestyle, with times of 5:18.90 and 5:24.19.
Freshman Presley Staretz won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.72, and came in second in the 100-yard butterfly.
Wagner took second and third in the 200-yard individual medley. Bree Anderson finished with a time of 2:11.10, behind her was junior Allie D'Allegro posting a time of 2:14.64.
The women's event finished with the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Olivia Bishop, Aura Vilarrasa, Abbie Hassell, and Annie Jencova secured first place on the podium with a time of 3:33.95.
As for the men's program, Wagner fell to LIU with a final score of 110-150.
Sophomore Adrian Aguirre kicked off the scoring for Wagner with second place in the 100-yard freestyle.
Freshman Brayden Schaeffer sat atop the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.57.
Fellow freshmen Ranger Gavino earned second with a time of 2:08.90 and second in the 200-yard individual medley, and Matthew Sherry brought home a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
In the men's 400-yard relay event, the team of Leo Benevedes, freshman Kaan Nalcaci, Brayden Schaeffer, and Ruben Van Gool came out on top with a time of 3:14.87.
Next for the men's and women's Seahawks is the Northeast Conference Championships.
The NEC Championship is from February 21st to February 25th in Geneva, Ohio.
