North Easton, MA – The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest 73-66 at Stonehill on Thursday evening.
After Stonehill opened the contest on a 9-3 run, the Seahawks responded with 13-6 run to wrap up the opening quarter. Redshirt junior
Alex Cowan led the way offensively for Wagner in the first with seven points on 3-6 shooting from the field.
Wagner came out firing in the second quarter behind shooting 7-16 from the floor, freshman Angelie Ricard led the way for the Green & White with a team-high five points in the second as Wagner took a 33-30 lead into halftime.
Wagner held a 49-39 lead with 4:02 remaining in the third quarter before Stonehill closed the half on an 8-0 run to cut the Wagner led to 49-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Junior
Julia Fabozzi led the way offensively for Wagner in the third with six points as freshman
Malia Mpondo chipped in four points and three rebounds in the frame.
With the Seahawks up 58-57 with 5:27 remaining in the fourth, Stonehill's Emily Bramanti hit a three-pointer to give Stonehill a 60-58 lead. Following that three-pointer, Stonehill went on to launch a 10-0 run to take a 70-58 lead. The Skyhawks would hold on to take a 73-66 win over Wagner.
Julia Fabozzi led all Wagner scorers with 20 points on 7-13 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, February 25 when they welcome Saint Francis U to the Spiro Sports Center at 3:00 pm.
