Raleigh, NC - The Wagner baseball team finished its three-game series against N.C. State with a 9-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks got on base early against the Wolfpack's freshman starter Dominic Fritton.
The Seahawks threatened after a walk by senior David Melfi and a base hit by senior DiMaggio Cazares in the second inning. The ball was bobbled and Melfi rounded third to score, but the relay was on target and Wagner's starting catcher was cut off at the plate.
Sophomore Frankie Wright kept the Wolfpack offense at bay, but was pulled after 2.2 innings of work. Sophomore Connor Hayden relieved Wright, but walked on two batters to load the bases.Â
A double from N.C. State produced the first two runs of the game, leading to another pitching change for the Seahawks. One more run came around, putting the Seahawks in a 3-0 hole.
Senior Ruben Del Castillo hurled 2.1 innings, giving up two runs. Freshman Will Saxenmeyer pitched 0.2 innings, giving up three runs. They each struck out one batter.
Graduate students John LaPointe and Alec Burnett, freshman Andrew Rucci, and redshirt sophomore Ryan Myles finished the final 2.1 innings of play.
The Seahawks will continue to play away from home next weekend when they take on Radford on February 24-26.
