Women’s Basketball Hosts Sacred Heart

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team will welcome Sacred Heart to the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday night at 7:00 pm.

Last Time Out
Wagner suffered its first setback in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, falling 61-59 to St. Francis Brooklyn on January 26.

Redshirt senior Kem Nwabudu led the way offensively for Wagner with 18 points and five rebounds.

Nwabudu Continues To Impress
Nwabudu was named a NEC Prime Performer for the second consecutive week after her performance against St. Francis Brooklyn.

The Elmont, NY native has scored in double figures in three consecutive contests as she went 8-15 from the field against the Terriers.

Nwabudu is averaging 10.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in conference play.

Experience Leading The Charge
Along with Nwabudu, graduate student Zhaneia Thybulle and redshirt junior Alex Cowan are averaging double figures in conference play.

Cowan has scored in double figures in six consecutive games while Thybulle is scored in double figures in five out of seven conference games while shooting 58.1 percent from the field.

NEC Up To Date
Wagner's first loss of NEC play puts them in third place with a 6-1 record behind Sacred Heart and FDU, who both own 7-1 conference records.

NEC Leaders
The Seahawks boast a well-balanced offense that sits atop the NEC at 69.7 points per game during conference play. Wagner is the lone team to have four players averaging double figures during NEC play. Alex Cowan, Zhaneia Thybulle, Kem Nwabudu and Drayah Heyward are all averaging double figures during NEC action.

Collectively averaging 47.1 points per game, the quartet has accounted for 73.7 percent of Wagner's scoring in conference play.

Wagner's 64.9 points per game throughout the season ranks first in the NEC as the Seahawks' 13.4 assists per game is tied for first in the circuit with FDU.

The Green & White's +5.94 turnover margin is tops in the NEC while its assist to turnover ratio is tied for first with FDU.

Wagner's 9.4 steals per game and 169 total steals rank third in the circuit.

Zhaneia Thybulle leads the NEC with 4.3 total assists and her 78 total assists are second in the NEC while Drayah Heyward ranks second in the NEC with 2.2 steals per game and third with 40 total steals. The Newark, NJ native led the NEC in steals last season.

Multiple Contributors
Alex Cowan, Zhaneia Thybulle and Kem Nwabudu all rank in the top-15 in points per game in the NEC. Cowan's 12.4 points per game is fifth in the NEC, Nwabudu's 10.6 is good for 12th while Thybulle's 10.3 points per game is good for 12th.

Nwabudu's 46.0 field goal percentage is good for third in the NEC.

Wagner has three players in the top-15 assist leaders in the NEC with Zhaneia Thybulle, Drayah Heyward and Alex Cowan.

Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers enter its contest with Wagner with a 10-10 overall record and a 7-1 mark in NEC play. 

Freshman Ny'Ceara Pryor earned her ninth NEC Rookie of the Week honor on Monday, the Baltimore, MD native was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watch List.

Pryor is averaging a team-high 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and 17.5 points per game and 18.4 points per game in conference play both leadsthe NEC 

As a team, the Pioneers lead the NEC with 3.5 blocks and 9.9 steals per game.The Pioneers' 69 total blocks and 198 steals also lead the conference.

Sacred Heart's .710 defensive rebound percentage is tied for first in the NEC with Stonehill.

Sacred Heart ranks second in the circuit in scoring defense, scoring margin, turnover margin and offensive rebounds.

Graduate student Sajada Bonner is the other Pioneer to average double figures with 10.7 points per game.

The Seahawks will welcome FDU to the Spiro Sports Center on CBSSN on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 pm.
