Bridgewater, NJ - Sophomore Kaan Nalçaci and freshman Jasu Ovaskainen of the Wagner men's swimming & diving team continued the individual award streak for the Seahawks after winning Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimmer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Wednesday.
This marks the fourth straight week that a Seahawk has earned a major NEC individual award.
Nalçaci earned his first NEC Swimmer of the Week award of the year, while Ovaskainen earned his third NEC Rookie of the Week nod of the first half of his debut collegiate season.
At the Harold Anderson Invite from November 17-19, Nalçaci broke the pool, meet and school record in the 100-yard backstroke (48.94) and 200-yard backstroke (1:46.59). Individually, he also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.55).
In relay races, the Ankara, Turkey, native had two first place finishes (400-yard medley, 800-yard freestyle) and a third place finish (400-yard freestyle).
For Ovaskainen, he too broke school records at the Harold Anderson Invite by placing first in both the 200-yard IM (1:49.71) and 100-yard butterfly (48.66). He also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (45.99) to round out his individual performances.
Ovaskainen was also a part of the 400-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relay teams along with Nalçaci.
Nalçaci and Ovaskainen also earned NEC Prime Performer honors alongside their teammates, sophomore Ruben Van Gool and freshman Nikkolai Carrillo.
Van Gool had two individual victories and one first place finish in relays at the Harold Anderson Invite, while Carrillo finished as high as second place in two events.
