Zaire Williams' career-high 21 points and two late defensive stands propelled the Wagner College men's basketball team to a 62-59 victory at Coppin State on Wednesday night.
The Seahawks only led for 6:18 minutes of the contest, including just over three minutes in the second half, but made big plays when it counted most. A Williams three gave Wagner its first lead of the second half at 53-51 with 4:19 to play.
Both teams went back and forth for the ensuing three minutes. Trailing by one, sophomore
Keyontae Lewis hit two clutch free throws with 45 seconds to play to re-establish the Wagner lead at 60-59. Lewis recorded the first double-double of his collegiate career with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Following a defensive stop, Williams connected on a fastbreak layup to put Wagner up three with 12 seconds to play. Coming out of a timeout, the Seahawks once again stood tall defensively to secure the victory.

Di'Andre Howell-South added 10 points and six rebounds, while junior
Melvin Council Jr. added 13 points off the bench.
Wagner trailed 31-23 at the half, but held the Eagles to 34.8% (8-23) from the field in the second half while hitting on 13-30 (43.3%) shots offensively in the second half.
The Seahawks held a 35-30 edge on the glass, resulting in a 16-9 edge in second chance points.
Next up, Wagner will host Boston University on Sunday, December 10, with tip-off set for 1:00 pm.
