Staten Island, NY – Behind a number of offensive superlatives, the Wagner College men's basketball team earned a 98-49 victory over Division III member Gwynedd Mercy on Friday afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center.
Junior
Melvin Council Jr. led four Seahawks in double-figures with a career-high 28 points and 11 assists, while sophomore
Julian Brown poured in a career-high 19 points off the bench. Redshirt-sophomore
Di'Andre Howell-South added 16 points, while junior
Javier Ezquerra contributed 12 points and seven assists.
The Seahawks never trailed throughout the contest and led by as much as 52 points late in the second half while hitting on 15-32 (46.9%) shots from long range, the most threes made by a Wagner team since connecting on 18 threes against Wesley on November 12, 2019.
Wagner combined for 32 assists, as seven of eight players had three or more assists in the contest. This marks the first time Wagner has had more than 30 assists in a game since 2007 and is good for 15
th in the nation this year. The team's 32 assists falls one short of the Seahawks' franchise record of 33, set in 2000 against Brown.
Additionally, the Seahawks held a 49-26 advantage on the glass while holding a 15-8 edge in turnovers.
The Seahawks will wrap up non-conference play at Manhattan on December 30 at 7:00 pm.
