Fairfield, CT – The Wagner College men's basketball team fell 63-51 at Fairfield on Sunday afternoon.
Juniors
Melvin Council Jr. and
Tahron Allen paced the Seahawks with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while junior
Tyje Kelton was the third Seahawk in double figures with 10 points in the contest.
Limited to just eight players on the day, the Seahawks could not overcome an early deficit, as the Stags opened the game on a 19-2 run.
Wagner battled, as a Kelton three with time winding down in the first period made it a nine-point game at 31-22 at the half.
The Seahawks opened the second half strong, as a basket by sophomore
Julian Brown made it a two-possession game at 37-31 with 15:35 to play.
Four straight points by Council seven minutes later once again had the Seahawks within striking distance at 48-42, but it wasn't enough, as the Stags pulled away late for the victory.
Fairfield held a 37-35 advantage on the glass and used a 25-9 edge in points from turnovers to earn the win.
Wagner will be back in action on Friday, December 22, when the Seahawks host Gwynedd Mercy at 2:00 pm for the penultimate non-conference game of the season.
