Annapolis, MD | Washington D.C. | Baltimore, MD - The Wagner College men's water polo team finished its 2023 regular season against three Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) opponents over the weekend.
The Seahawks traveled to three separate venues from Friday, November 3 to Sunday, November 5. During that time, the Green & White would open the three-game slate against against #20 Navy on Friday, then face George Washington on Saturday, before ending against Johns Hopkins on Sunday.Â

Game 1 Results: Wagner 8 - #20 Navy 10
Wagner would hold a lead against Navy after the first quarter of play. Junior Kyle Chambers would net the first goal less than a minute into the game. Junior Andrew Cowie and current MAWPC 'Player of the Week' senior Barnabas Vidovics would also find the back of the net during the opening frame. The Seahawks and Midshipmen would be tied 5-5 heading into halftime. Chambers recorded a hatrick in the first 16 minutes of the game, scoring two in the second quarter.Â
In the third quarter, junior Mattia Bognolo scored the lone goal for Wagner. Heading into the fourth, the Seahawks trailed by one. Chambers and Cowie both put away their own goal during the frame, bringing Chambers game total to four, and Cowie's to two. Navy would score three goals in the last quarter, defeating Wagner, 10-8.
In net, graduate student Djordje Stoiljkovic would reject eight shots throughout the game.

Game 2 Results; Wagner 10 - George Washington 12
The Seahawks trailed after one quarter of competition, 2-1, to the Revolutionaries. Sophomore Laszlo Strasser scored the first of the game halfway through the frame. Wagner would tally three more during the second quarter to tie the game at four a piece. Freshman Vince Varga would score his first of the day, joined by Bognolo and Chambers who were responsible for the other two goals during the second.
In the third, Cutino Award Watch List member Laszlo Strasser scored his second and third goals of the contest. Along with a goal from Eliot Alvaerz, Wagner would trail 8-7 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final frame, Strasser would nail his fourth, as Bognolo would net his second, and Cowie his first of the game. In the end, the Seahawks could not hold off the Revolutionaries, falling 12-10.

Game 3 Results: Wagner 28 - Johns Hopkins 11
Barnabas Vidovics got the ball rolling for Wagner in its final game of the regular season. Vidovics netted two goals during the initial frame of the game, along with Strasser who scored a pair, and Alvarez who scored one. Senior Zsombor Gyemant etched his name in the scorecard, and did so in a big way, scoring three goals in the first quarter alone. As a team, the Seahawks scored eight goals in the first. Wagner extended their lead to 13-5 heading into the second half. Strasser scored goals number three and four, Vidovics completed his hat-trick, Alvarez put away his second of the game, with Chambers and senior Ryan Lanier attaining their first goals of the contest.Â
In the second half, Wagner would continue to pour it on, scoring five goals in the third quarter, and ten in the fourth. Junior Kristian Stanczewski notched his first goal of the weekend, along with Strasser, Chambers, Vidovics, and Alvarez who all added to their scoring totals in the third. The Green & White would finish the season on a high-note, led by Alvarez who scored five goals in the final frame alone bringing his game total to eight scores. Strasser would finish the game with six goals, and Vidovics with five. Freshman Gabe Johnson and Maayan Nahari would punctuate the Seahawks' record-breaking 28 goals in a single game. The Seahawks would prevail over the Blue Jays, 28-11.

Prior to this game, the Wagner men's water polo record for goals in one game came in a 26-9 win against Salem University on September 2, 2018, at the Navy Fall Invitational.Â
The Green & White finished its 2023 regular season with an overall record of 16-13, and a conference record of 7-5. Wagner would finalize its season with a 3-0 record at home, 2-7 record on the road, and an 11-6 record at a neutral site.Â
Next up, the Wagner Seahawks men's water polo team will compete in the first round of the MAWPC Championship Tournament. The Seahawks will enter as the fourth seed, and face-off against fifth-seeded George Washington at 7:30 pm on Friday, November 17.
