Field Hockey Suffers Overtime Loss In NEC Championship Game

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College field hockey team suffered a 1-0 overtime loss to Sacred Heart in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship game.

In the first quarter of the contest, Wagner out shot Sacred Heart 6-1 and registered four penalty corners as the Pioneers tallied just one. The game remained scoreless heading into the second stanza.

Wagner continued to dominate the pace of play in the second frame as they held Sacred Heart to just one shot while the Seahawks registered 10. The Seahawks had six penalty corner opportunities in the frame as the Pioneers had just one.

The title game entered the second half scoreless.

Sacred Heart tallied six shots in the third frame while holding Wagner to just one. Freshman goalkeeper Puck Schenk tallied three saves for Wagner to keep the game scoreless. The contest entered the fourth quarter knotted at zero.

Both teams struggled to find the back of the net in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks registered four shots while holding the Pioneers to just one. 
Regulation ended scoreless as the Seahawks headed to overtime to decide the NEC champion.

The Pioneers tallied the game-winning goal 1:30 into overtime as Isabelle Chamberlain tallied the winner for the Pioneers.

Graduate student Madison Hosksins, junior Emma Lofstedt, and freshman Pilar Lorenzini were named to the All-Tournament team.
