Lewisburg, PA - The Wagner College men's water polo team competed in their third game of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championships. The fourth-seeded Seahawks took on the third-seeded Bucknell Bison in the tournament's third-place game, at the Kinney Natatorium on Sunday, November 19.
Throughout the weekend, the Green & White defeated the George Washington Revolutionaries in the tournament quarterfinal, 15-14. Wagner would then fall to the Fordham Rams in the semifinals. The Rams would defeat Wagner, 23-12, before earning a victory over Navy to win the conference championships.Â

Only sixteen seconds into the game, sophomore Laszlo Strasser scored the first goal of the game, and added his second less than two minutes later. Junior Kyle Chambers would add an exclusion goal with just over a minute to go in the quarter. After one quarter, the Seahawks led the Bison, 3-1. Senior Ryan Lanier found the back of the net in the second quarter. The senior from Seabrook, Texas scored in all three goals over the weekend, along with Chambers and Strasser. At half, Wagner and Bucknell were tied at four apiece.
After the third frame, the Seahawks and the Bison were still neck-and-neck at 6-6. Junior Mattia Bognolo and freshman Vince Varga were responsible for the Green & White's goals during the quarter. Varga, who scored three goals against Fordham, would come away with another score in the fourth, bringing his game total to two. At the end of regulation, Bucknell would prevail over Wagner, 10-7.
Wagner would conclude their 2023 season with an overall record of 17-15, and a conference record of 7-5. The Seahawks finished undefeated at home, boasting a 3-0 record, 2-8 at away matches, and 12-7 at neutral site games.Â
The Seahawks' 17 regular-season victories is tied for the second most in the program's history, and their seven MAWPC wins is good for the third most, in one season, for the Green & White.
