Lewisburg, PA - The Wagner College men's water polo team advanced to the second round of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Tournament with a 15-14 victory over George Washington.
The Seahawks entered the tournament as the fourth seed, and will now face off against one-seeded Fordham University at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 18.Â

The Seahawks and Revolutionaries were tied at 2-2 after one quarter of play. MAWPC First Team All-Conference member sophomore Laszlo Strasser scored the first goal for the Seahawks, breaking a George Washington 2-0 lead. Junior Kyle Chambers was responsible for the Green & White's other goal during the frame. In the second quarter, Wagner added two more to their totals. Chambers netted his second during the frame, as senior Zsombor Gyemant contributed his own goal with eleven seconds left in the frame. The Seahawks trailed at half, 6-4.
In the third quarter, Wagner and George Washington both scored six goals a piece. Chambers continued to pour it on, scoring three goals during the stanza alone, one coming four seconds before the end of the quarter. Strasser put away his second, while senior Barnabas Vidovics added his name to the scoresheet in the middle of the frame. Senior Ryan Lanier added a goal during the third as well. In the final period, Wagner would storm back from a three goal deficit. Kyle Chambers scored his sixth and seventh goals of the game, Gyemant scored his second, while junior Andrew Cowie would find the back of the net early in the quarter. Junior Mattia Bognolo lifted the Seahawks with a penalty goal, with a minute and a half to go in the game. Wagner would outscore George Washington 5-2 in the fourth, to prevail 15-14.Â
In net, graduate student Djordje Stoiljkovic and senior Kevin Roach split duties. With Roach starting the game, and Stoiljkovic taking command in the second half.
If the Seahawks defeat Fordham, then Wagner will compete in the MAWPC Championships game at noon on Sunday, November 19.
