Women’s Basketball Travels To NJIT

Newark, NJ - The Wagner College women's basketball team will travel to NJIT on Saturday, tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

Last Time Out
Wagner dropped its second consecutive game to open the season with a 51-48 overtime loss at Hofstra on November 12.

Down 25-15 at halftime, junior Paige Lyons tallied 14 third quarter points to bring Wagner back into the contest.

The Green & White tallied 10 points combined in the fourth quarter and overtime as the Pride came away with the victory.

Defense Continues To Impress
Wagner has forced 39 turnovers through the first two games of the season. Junior Rakisha Ballinger has a team-high nine steals while Paige Lyons has six on the season. Ballinger ranks 39th nationally and first in the Northeast Conference (NEC). Ballinger also ranks 15th nationally in steals per game, Lyons ranks 71st nationally in steals per game.

Ballinger is averaging 4.5 steals per game while Lyons is averaging 3.0.

Wagner ranks tied for 47th nationally with 12.0 steals per game, the Seahawks are also holding opponents to 22.9 percent shooting from three-point range, which ranks 62nd nationally.

Newcomers Making An Impact
Paige Lyons leads Wagner with 10.5 points per game. Freshman Kiera Edmonds has tallied at least six rebounds in each of the first two games of the season. Edmonds tallied 10 rebounds at Hofstra as her 8.0 rebounds per game is good for first in the NEC.

Graduate student Taleah Washington has tallied nine assists this season, including seven at Hofstra. Washington ranks 114th nationally and first in the NEC with 4.5 assists per game.

The Series
This is the 14th time the Seahawks and Highlanders will square off. Wagner holds a 7-6 lead in the all-time series. Wagner is riding a three-game winning streak against NJIT.

Last season, the Seahawks earned a 68-54 victory on December 17, 2022 at the Spiro Sports Center, Wagner used a 29-point third quarter to earn the victory.


Terrell Coburn earned his first victory as head coach on November 9, 2021 at NJIT, The Seahawks are 1-6 on the road against the Highlanders.

Scouting NJIT
NJIT welcomes Wagner with a 3-1 overall record on the season; the Highlanders made their third consecutive America East Tournament appearance last season. The Highlanders were picked fifth annual America East preseason poll. 

NJIT returns reigning America East Rookie of the Year Alejandra Zuniga and two-time America East Third Team selection Kenna Squier.
