Brookville, NY – The Wagner College football team suffered a 49-14 loss at LIU on Saturday. With the loss, the Seahawks wrap up Northeast Conference (NEC) play with a 3-4 record. Wagner will conclude its season next Saturday with a non-conference game against Post University at Hameline Field. Prior to kickoff, the Seahawks will honor their seniors in a pregame ceremony.
Junior running back
Rickey Spruill led the Green and White on Saturday with 130 yards rushing and a touchdown. For Spruill, it was his third consecutive game with 100 yards or more on the ground, the most by a Seahawk running back since All-American Ryan Fulse accomplished the feat during the 2018 season.
After the Sharks took the lead late in the first quarter, the Seahawks tied the game on a two-yard touchdown run by Spruill to open the second quarter.
With Wagner trailing 14-7, the Seahawks engineered an 11-play drive that spanned 50 yards and cumulated in a four-yard touchdown pass from graduate student quarterback
Steven Krajewski to freshman wide receiver
Jaylen Bonelli with 21 seconds to play in the second quarter, sending both teams into the half tied at 14-14.
LIU scored 14 points in the third quarter and 21 points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Defensively, Wagner was paced by senior captain
Junior Wily's eight tackles, while graduate student
John Gioia was credited with six stops.
Next up, kickoff between Wagner and Post is scheduled for 12 pm next Saturday on NECFrontRow.
