BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Wagner College football redshirt freshman quarterback Benjamin Newman was named NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday.

Newman earned the honor after completing 28-of-37 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns against Duquesne on Saturday afternoon.

The redshirt freshman connected with senior wide receiver Jeremiah Colclough for a 33-yard touchdown on fourth-and-two in the opening quarter before finding junior tight end Johans Bars for a 12-yard score in the second quarter.

Later in the first half, Newman led the Seahawks on a five-play, 51-yard scoring drive, capped by a 33-yard touchdown pass to redshirt junior wide receiver Zion Fowler-El on fourth-and-five.

Newman completed 14-of-15 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns in the opening half, marking his second game this season with three first-half touchdown passes.

The Rochester, N.Y., native completed passes to 12 different receivers, 11 of whom recorded multiple receptions.

Newman previously earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 7 after completing 23-of-33 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns in Wagner's 31-7 victory over Southern Connecticut State.

Monday's honor marks the first time a Seahawk offensive player has earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors multiple times in a season since Jaylen Bonelli received the award four times in 2023.

Newman also becomes the first Wagner quarterback to earn multiple NEC Rookie of the Week honors in a season since Nick Doscher received the award five times in 2009.

Newman and the Seahawks will continue their three-game road stretch on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they travel to face Merrimack. Kickoff is set for noon at Duane Stadium, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
