Staten Island, NY - Former Wagner College cross country and track & field star Jean Uminski finished in second place at the 2023 New York Road Runners (NYRR) Staten Island Half Marathon. The event hosted over 9,400 men and women on Sunday morning.
The graduate student from Paris ran with an average mile pace of 5:05 over the duration of the course's 13.1 miles. At the 10k mark, Uminski clocked in a split of 32:21, completing the Staten Island Half in 1:06.33.Â
Uminski would cross the finish line in second place overall, out of 9,431 finishers. Uminski trailed the first place finisher Ryan Cutter by 26 seconds, and outpaced third place Desta Utura Gedo by 53 seconds.Â
During Uminski's last year at Wagner, he came away the individual winner at the 2022 Northeast Conference (NEC) Cross Country Championships. While leading the Seahawks to a conference title, Uminski set the course ablaze, running a 24:35.9 8k to earn himself an average mile time of just under five minutes.Â
Uminski also set the current school record in the outdoor 5000m at the Yale Last Chance Meet on May 13, clocking in a time of 14:07.44, and a fourth place finish.Â
Before graduating, Uminski placed in three separate events at the 2023 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Uminski finished the 1500m in third, 5000m in second, and the 10,000m in first. Uminski took home the honor of 'Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance)', as well being named to the All-Conference First Team in the 10,000m, and All-Conference Second Team in the 5000m.
Uminski is now pursuing his MBA degree at Wagner College, while serving as an Athletics Game Operations Assistant for the Seahawks.
