Fairfield, CT - The Wagner College field hockey team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest 2-1 at Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon.
In the first quarter, the Seahawks were unable to generate a shot as the Pioneers earned three. Freshman goalkeeper Puck Schenk stopped the lone Sacred Heart shot on target in the first quarter.
The game entered the second quarter scoreless as the Seahawks out shot the Pioneers 4-1. Three of Wagner's four shots were on target but the Green & White were unable to find the back of the net in the frame. The game entered the second half scoreless.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead 1:32 into the third quarter before senior Natalie Rocuskie found the back of the net with 4:26 remaining in the third. The Seahawks out shot the Pioneers 4-3 in the third as all four Wagner shots were on target in the frame. The contest entered the fourth quarter knotted at one.
The Pioneers took a 2-1 lead 4:48 into the fourth quarter and were able to hold on for the victory. Wagner tallied three shots in the final 15 minutes while generating two penalty corners but the Seahawks were unable to find the back of the net.
Wagner will be back in action on Friday, October 13 when they welcome Fairfield at 3:00 pm.
