Bridgewater, NJ - Fifth year Olivia Bishop and freshmen Nikkolai Carrillo and Rebekka Luoto of the Wagner swimming & diving program took home four Northeast Conference (NEC) weekly awards, the conference announced Wednesday.
Bishop and Carrillo won NEC Swimmer of the Week for their respective sports, while Luoto earned NEC Rookie of the Week for the women. Carrillo also won NEC Rookie of the Week for the men.
After impressing in her first year on Grymes Hill, Bishop kicked off her second season with the Seahawks with a 2-0 mark in individual competition at the Iona/Sacred Heart Tri-Meet. The Surprise, AZ native placed first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.
Carrillo burst onto the scene with his own undefeated start to his individual collegiate career. He placed atop the podium in the 200-yard IM before breaking a Wagner school record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.52.
Luoto too began her Wagner career with a 2-0 mark. The Raisio, Finland native placed first in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke. Luoto also joined the 400-yard medley relay team for a first place finish.
In addition to their weekly awards, all three athletes were named NEC Prime Performers alongside sophomore Aura Vilarrasa.Â
Vilarrasa finished in first place in her two individual competitions. She paced the field in the 200-yard freestyle before taking first place again in the 200-yard backstroke.
