Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team suffered its first Northeast Conference (NEC) contest of the season at St. Francis Brooklyn.
The Seahawks outscored the Terriers 16-14 in the first quarter behind junior
Marisa Sanchez-Henry's six points. Wagner's bench scored eight out of the 14 first quarter points.
The Seahawks continued to hold the lead through the second quarter behind reigning NEC Player of the Week fifth year senior
Kem Nwabudu's eight points.
Wagner took a 30-24 lead into halftime behind 42% shooting from the field and 50% shooting from three-point range.
St. Francis Brooklyn cut in the Wagner lead very quickly in the third quarter as they outscored the Green & White 25-12. The Terriers tallied nine second chance points and outrebounded Wagner 14-1.
Wagner fought back in the fourth quarter as the team's traded buckets down the stretch. The Terriers were able to hold on and pull out the victory.
Kem Nwabudu led the way for Wagner with 18 points and five rebounds as
Alex Cowan also scored in double figures with 10 points.
The loss moves Wagner to 11-7 overall and 6-1 in NEC play.
Wagner will be back in action on Thursday, February 2 when they welcome Sacred Heart to the Spiro Sports Center, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
