Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team led 30-22 at the half, but it wasn't enough, as St. Francis Brooklyn earned a 65-56 victory on Thursday night at the Spiro Sports Center.
With the loss, Wagner falls to 11-8 on the season and 4-4 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Terriers improve to 10-11 overall and 3-5 on the year.
Junior
Rahmir Moore led the Seahawks with 18 points on 7-11 shooting, while senior
Brandon Brown added 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Terriers were led by Tedrick Wilcox Jr's 21 points.
The Seahawks jumped out to an early lead, as a
Brandon Brown dunk with 2:01 to play in the first half capped a 10-0 run and gave Wagner its biggest lead of the game at 30-17.
The Terriers took the lead with an 11-0 run early in the second half. Wagner regained the lead on a pair of free throws by sophomore
Rob Taylor II, which made it 50-49 with 5:34 to play, but a 9-2 run by the visitors turned the tide back in favor of the Terriers, who hung on for the road victory.
Wagner held a slim 30-29 advantage on the glass and outscored St. Francis Brooklyn 26-16 in the paint.
Next up, Wagner will travel to Sacred Heart on Thursday, February 2, looking for the season sweep against the Pioneers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
