Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team will look to move to 5-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play when they welcome Stonehill on Thursday.
Last Time Out
Wagner earned a 69-63 victory at Merrimack on Monday.
Redshirt junior
Alex Cowan put together another strong performance with 20 points on 4-8 shooting from the field. The Bowie, MD native tallied 12 fourth quarter points, including nine of Wagner's last 11.
Cowan also shot a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line.
Graduate student
Zhaneia Thybulle tallied all 12 of her points in the second half while shooting 5-6 from the field. The Elmont, NY native also dished out four assists.
Cowan And Thybulle Leading The Charge
Alex Cowan has tallied at least 15 points in the last three games. She is averaging 14.8 points per game through the first four games of conference play.
Cowan's 12.5 points per game is seventh in the NEC.
The Bowie, MD native was named a NEC Prime Performer for the fourth time this season after her strong performance against Merrimack.
Zhaneia Thybulle has scored in double figures in five of the last six games, including a 21-point effort against NJIT on December 17 and a career-high 22 points against Merrimack on January 6.
The Elmont, NY native is averaging 14.3 points per game during the six-game stretch.
Seahawks In The NEC
Wagner will look to move to 5-0 in NEC play for the first time in program history. The Seahawks are one of three teams in the NEC to remain unbeaten in conference play as Sacred Heart and FDU also stand at 4-0.
The Seahawks are 4-0 in NEC play for the first time since the 2001-02 season and are 5-1 in its last six contests.
Wagner is defeating opponents by an average of 19.0 points in conference play and own the best home winning percentage in the conference
Wagner is the lone team in the NEC that has four players averaging at least 11.3 points per game during NEC play as junior
Julia Fabozzi is netting 11.3 points per game and senior
Drayah Heyward is averaging 11.5 points per game.
Zhaneia Thybulle is up to 13.8 points per game while
Alex Cowan is netting 14.8 points per game. Collectively averaging 51.3 points per game, the quartet has accounted for 71.2 percent of Wagner's scoring in conference play.
Wagner NEC Ranks
Wagner leads the conference with 72.0 points per game while sitting second with a 39.7 field goal percentage.
Wagner's 210 assists is tied for the conference lead and its 14.0 assists per game are tops in the NEC.
The Seahawks' 9.5 steals per game and 143 total steals rank second in the conference.
Wagner's +5.07 turnover margin and 0.9 assist to turnover ratio is tops in the NEC.
Scouting Stonehill
The NEC newcomers will enter Grymes Hill for the first time with a 5-13 overall record and a 1-4 mark in conference play.
Stonehill's first NEC win came in its first ever NEC contest at CCSU on January 2.
Since the victory over CCSU, Stonehill has dropped four consecutive contests.
Stonehill is led by fifth year senior Emily Bramanti, who averages a team-leading 14.6 points per game and 2.7 assists per game.
Through 18 games, the Skyhawks are averaging 57.4 points per game.
Coach Trisha Brown is one of two coaches in Stonehill women's basketball history to eclipse 400 career victories.
