This Week In Wagner Athletics; Eight Sports In Action As Fall Season Heats Up

Staten Island, NY- Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.

Women's Soccer

  • Travels to West Point, NY to take on Army on Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 P.M.
  • Travels to Albany, NY to take on UAlbany on Sunday, September 11 at 3:00 P.M.
  • Fell to Iona, 1-0, on Sunday, September 4 at Hameline Field.
  • Madison Carr was named NEC Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against NJIT on Wednesday, August 31.
  • Olivia Rubbo was named NEC Rookie of the Week after scoring the game-tying goal against NJIT on Wednesday, August 31.
 
Field Hockey
  • Hosts Cornell on Friday, September 9 at 3:00 P.M. at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.
  • Travels to Bethlehem, PA to take on Lehigh on Sunday, September 11 at 3:00 P.M.
  • The Seahawks dropped their first game of the season, 2-1 at UMass Lowell on Monday, September 5.
  • Daisy Ruhle ranks fourth in the nation in save percentage and eighth in goals against average.
   
Football
  • The Seahawks will travel to FBS member Rutgers on Saturday at 4:00 P.M.

Men's XTC
  • The Seahawks will be heading to the LIU Invite this Friday, September 9.
  • The Men's 6K Team placed second with a time of 1:38:12.  
  • Freshman, Jean Uminiski, placed fourth individually with a time of 19:11:9. 
  • The junior Staten Island native, Anthony Bentivegna, also placed in the top ten finishing in 19:11.9.

 
Women's XTC
  • The Seahawks finished behind fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member LIU in seventh place. 
  • In her first-ever collegiate competition, freshman Laura Trenado, led Wagner with a time of 15:16.00, which was good for 22nd overall. 
  • Returners Gia Comerford and Ana Blanco Duran placed 38th and 43rd, respectively.
  • The Seahawks will be heading to the LIU Invite this Friday, September 9.
 
Triathlon
  • The Wagner College Triathlon team will be opening its season abroad this week in Montreal, Quebec. The Super Sprint Grand Prix will take place Saturday, September 9th.
  • The squad features four freshmen including Vivien Mattice, Kayla Renwick, Presley Staretz, and Kasha Vitoratos.
  • Last season, Maia Vitoratos finished 24th in the field at the 2021 NCAA Collegiate Race. She posted a chip time of 1:07:15.8. The sophomore's total time was broken down by a swim time of 11:23; bike time of 32:29; and run time of 21:24.

 
Men's Water Polo
  • Wagner will compete at the Princeton Invitational from Friday, September 9 to Sunday, September 11.
  • The Seahawks will take on St. Francis Brooklyn and Princeton on Friday, Iona on Saturday, and Santa Clara on Sunday.
  • The Seahawks finished the opening weekend 1-3 at the Bruno Classic as they won the first game of the Josh Hower era, 19-7 against MIT on Saturday, September 3.
  Men's Golf
  • The Seahawks open the 2022 fall slate on Saturday, September 10, and Sunday, September 11 in Kensington, CT for the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate.
