Cambridge, MA – The Wagner men's water polo team defeated MIT, 17-9, before falling to Stanford, 27-6 at day one of the Bruno Classic on Saturday.

The first game of the
Josh Hower era as the head coach of the Wagner water polo program resulted in a convincing victory over MIT, 17-9.
The Seahawks put a stamp on the opening game of the 2022 season as they outscored the Engineers 6-3 in the opening frame.
Sophomore
Mattia Bognolo tallied the first goal of the season as senior Olivér Fodor tallied two goals. Junior Zsombor Gyémánt found the back of the net once along with freshman
Barnabas Vidovics, Bognolo tallied the last goal of the opening quarter.
After outscoring MIT 3-0 in the second frame, Wagner took a 9-3 advantage into the second half. Sophomore
Jack Wilson, and freshmen
Ryan Kerry and
Laszio Strasser found the back of the net for Wagner in the second.
Wagner went on to outscore MIT 8-6 in the second half, propelling them to a victory in the opening game in the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Kevin Roach stopped 12 shots while Olivér Fodor led all scorers with five goals on six shots. Out of the nine goal scorers for Wagner, three recorded their first goals as a member of the Seahawks.

In the second game of the day, Wagner fell to Stanford, 27-6.
Stanford put a stamp on the contest in the first half as they outscored Wagner 11-1. Wagner went on to score five more goals in the contest as Olivér Fodor and Zsombor Gyémánt each tallied two goals.
Ryan Kerry and senior
Shaked Yacoby each tallied one goal each in the loss.
Lazsio Strasser tallied three assists in the contest and
Kevin Roach stopped five shots in goal for Wagner.
The Seahawks will conclude the Bruno Classic on Sunday, September 4 when they take on Air Force and Pacific at Brown University.
