Princeton, NJ – The Wagner men's water polo team picked up a 16-11 victory over Iona at day two of the Princeton Invitational on Saturday
The Seahawks got off to a fast start against Iona as they outscored the Gaels 5-2 in the opening frame. Freshman
Laszio Strasser tallied two goals in the frame for Wagner as sophomore's
Mattia Bognolo,
Kyle Chambers and senior
Karl Lovett scored one goal each.
Wagner carried its momentum in the second quarter with four goals to Iona's two.
Mattia Bognolo tallied his second of the game as sophomore
Angelo Zaina, junior Zsombor Gyémánt, and senior
Ben Zovickian scored one goal each in the frame.
With a 9-5 lead heading to the second half, Wagner added three more goals in the third. Zombor Gyémánt scored his second of the contest as sophomore
Andrew Cowie and senior Olivér Fodor found the back of the net.
Wagner took a 12-7 lead into the final eight minutes and coaster to a 16-11 victory, earning its second victory of the
Josh Hower era.
Laszio Strasser and
Mattia Bognolo each tallied hat tricks in the contest as Strasser dished out two assists and Bognolo had three. Three goalkeepers combined for 10 saves as sophomore
Vaughn Bui made has season debut.
Zombor Gyémánt tallied two goals and three assists while Olivér Fodor scored once on six shots while drawing six exclusions.
The Seahawks will conclude the Princeton Invitational on Sunday, September 11 at 2:15 P.M. against Santa Clara.
