Cambridge, MA & Providence, RI – The Wagner men's water polo team is set to begin the
Josh Hower era this weekend at the Bruno Classic.
New Beginnings
Josh Hower was named the head men's and women's water polo on August 15. Hower arrived on Grymes Hill after spending the last five years as the lead assistant coach on the University of Michigan women's water polo staff.
During his tenure in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines won the CWPA (College Water Polo Association) conference and reached the NCAA quarterfinals four times (2018-2019, 2021-22).
The Returners
Hower inherits a team that returns two-time All-American, all-time leading goal scorer in program history, and single-season goals leader, Olivér Fodor. Fellow All-American Honorable Mention Zsombor Gyémánt also returns for the Seahawks in 2022, as the team reached the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) semifinals last season.
With 17 victories, Wagner earned its second-highest win total in program history.
Both players were also named to MAWPC All-Conference teams, as Fodor earned First Team honors and Gyémánt earned second team honors.
The Newcomers
Wagner added six new players to the program for the upcoming season, including transfer
Barnabas Vidovics. A transfer from Golden West College, VIdovics appeared in 57 games over two seasons while tallying 95 points, 68 goals, and 27 assists.
The Bruno Classic
The Bruno Classic will take place over three days on the campuses of Harvard and Brown on September 3 to September 5. All four of the Wagner contests will be televised on ESPN+.
Wagner will open its season on September 3 against MIT and Stanford at Harvard before heading to Brown to take on Air Force and Pacific.
The Schedule
