Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's soccer team returns home to Hameline Field for a pair of home matches, beginning on Thursday evening as the Seahawks welcome the NJIT Highlanders to Grymes Hill. The Green & White concludes the homestand on Sunday afternoon as they will take on the Iona University Gaels. 

Last Time Out...
  • Senior midfielder Juliana Rafaniello scored her first goal in a Wagner uniform in the 68th minutes as the Seahawks split their first road trip of the season, defeating Manhattan, 1-0, on Saturday evening in Riverdale. 
  • Fifth-year Gabby Cipriano lined up for the corner kick and sent the ball high into the air as senior Isabella Manzella was able to head the ball into the box. Rafaniello was able to contol the ball and push one past Manhattan's Kim Mains, giving the visiting Green & White a 1-0 lead. 
  • Wagner senior goalkeeper Erin Kelly kept the Jaspers offense at-bay, making five saves in recording her first shutout of the season. 

Kelly Garners NEC Defensive Player of the Week Honors...
  • Senior goalkeeper Erin Kelly was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. 
  • For the Massapequa, NY native, it marks the first time in her Seahawk career that she has earned the weekly honor. 
  • Making her season debut on Saturday at Manhattan, Kelly made five saves on 15 shots face in posting her first clean sheet of the season.
  • For Kelly, it marked her fourth career shutout after she posted a pair of clean sheets a season ago. 

All-Time Series Against NJIT...
  • Wagner leads the head-to-head series with the Highlanders, 6-5-0.
  • The Seahawks are looking to snap a four-game losing streak to NJIT, last falling 1-0 back on September 2 in Newark. 
  • The two teams split their first two meetings before Wagner strung together five straight wins. 
  • The Seahawks are 4-1-0 all-time at Hameline Field against the Highlanders. 

All-Time Series Against Iona...
  • Sunday's fixture against the Gaels will mark the 14th all-time meeting between the two teams, with Iona holding a 6-5-2 all-time mark. 
  • The Seahawks are 5-2-0 at home against Iona, which includes last season's 3-2 overtime triumph. 

Scouting the Highlanders...
  • NJIT enters play unbeaten in their first four games (1-0-3) after drawing even for the third straight game with Drexel, 0-0, on Sunday. 
  • The Highlanders are 1-0 this year against NEC opponents, having defeated LIU, 4-0, on Opening Night as Ciara Adams netted two goals in the victory. 
  • Adams leads the team with the two goals while Aleesha Deshmukh has two of the four assists.
  • In goal, Molly Saylor, the reigning America East Defenisve Player of the Week, made 17 total saves in road games against Seton Hall (Aug. 25) and Drexel (Aug. 28), including a career-high 14 against the Dragons. 

Scouting the Gaels...
  • Before Iona travels to Staten Island on Sunday, the Gaels will tangle with Lafayette (Sep. 1) in looking to remain unbeaten on the season. 
  • The Gaels have won back-to-back games, outscoring their opponents, 8-2. 
  • Wagner will be the second NEC team Iona faces, having defeated St. Francis Brooklyn on August 28.
  • Kedarjah Lewis leads the team with three goals and three assists. 
  • Emma Havrilla has seen the bulk of the action in goal, making nine saves while allowing just three goals in four games. Caroline Scott has played in two matches, making five saves and allowing one goal. 
     
Next Up... 
  • Following Sunday's contest, Wagner will hit the road for a three-game stretch, beginning on Thursday, September 8 at Army West Point. 
  • The Seahawks will then head to Albany on Sunday, September 11 before opening Northeast Conference (NEC) play in Loretto, PA on September 15 against the Saint Francis U Red Flash.
