Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College field hockey team opened its 2022 season with a shootout victory over Hofstra, 3-2 (1-1), on Monday afternoon.
In a scoreless first quarter, graduate student goalkeeper
Daisy Ruhle stopped four shots, including her 100th career save as a member of the Seahawks. Classmate Augustina Deharbe tallied all three Wagner shots in the opening frame.
Wagner claimed the first goal of the contest of a corner opportunity. Junior
Natalie Rocuskie fed the ball to graduate student Laura Van Hamburg, who fired a shot that was deflected into the back of the net by senior
Kira Mordvinov.
Wagner held Hofstra without a shot in the second quarter as the Green & White took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Wagner held its lead after the third quarter as they held Hofstra to just one shot in the third, the Seahawks recorded two shots in the frame,
Hofstra tied the game with 7:08 remaining in the contest as the game finished regulation tied at one.
After both teams failed to score in the two overtime periods, the game headed to a shootout.

Liselotte Koop converted their penalty shot attempts while
Daisy Ruhle stopped two out of four shots to claim the victory for Wagner.
The Seahawks will host Yale on Friday, September 2.
