Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College field hockey team defeated Yale, 2-1, on Friday afternoon.
For the first time in program history, the Seahawks begin the season 2-0.

Kira Mordvinov tallied Wagner's first goal of the game for the second game in a row to get Wagner on the board early in the opening quarter. Graduate student
Julia Cruces Pastorino shot a ball towards the net that was redirected in by Mordvinov.
Yale leveled the score 43 seconds into the second quarter before the Seahawks regained the lead two minutes later. Junior
Shaelyn Kobrynich found graduate student Laura Van Hamburg off a penalty corner and Hamburg fired a shot that found the back of the net.
In the third quarter, Yale and Wagner each tallied one shot but were unable to find the back of the net as Wagner took a 2-1 lead into the final 15 minutes.
In a fourth quarter with nine penalty corners between both sides, neither team was able to find the back of the net. Both teams also combined for seven shots in the final quarter.

Remi Lloyd each led Wagner with two shots apiece as reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week
Daisy Ruhle stopped five shots in the victory.
The Seahawks will resume play on Monday, September 5 when they take on UMass Lowell at 1:00 P.M.
