Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's soccer concludes the opening weekend of the 2022 regular season on Sunday afternoon as the Seahawks welcome Fordham to Hameline Field.

Last Time Out...
  • The Green & White fought valiantly in the early stages of Thursday's contest against Rider, tying the match at 1-1 but the Broncs added a pair of goals which proved to be the difference as the Seahawks were defeated, 3-2.
  • Rider scored four minutes into the contest but Wagner rallied back. Junior Kayla Barbosa lined up for a corner kick that was deflected back toward her. The Hackettstown, NJ native was able to send a cross that found the head of senior forward Madison Carr, as she beat the Broncs goalkeeper, tying the game at 1-1.
  • For Carr, it marked her tenth career goal as a Seahawk. She now sits along in tenth place on the all-time career goals scored list. Additionally, she moves into a tie for tenth on the all-time career points list with 20, joining former Seahawks Cathy McHugh (1997), Stacey Hughes (1997-00) and Monica Zurich (2009-12).
  • The Broncs wasted little time in getting the go-ahead score as Leonor Alves set up Margret Fridriksson with a pass and was able to put on past Sam Hughes, giving Rider a 2-1 advantage.
  • Rider increased its lead to 3-1 in the opening moments of the second half as Logan Racine connected on a shot from the right side into the low left corner of the goal.
  • Wagner continued to stage a late comeback, as with 42 seconds remaining in the contest, sophomore Olivia Rubbo was able to convert on a tip-in goal that cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
  • The Broncs were able to keep the ball away from the Seahawks to hold on for the victory.
  • Wagner outshot Rider, 17-12, with ten of those chances finding their way on net.
  • Hughes finished with four saves on the evening.
  • The Seahawks took five corner kicks on the evening while Rider attempted one.

All-Time Series...
  • Sunday's contest between the Seahawks and the Rams will mark the tenth all-time meeting between the two teams.
  • Wagner will be looking for their first win over Fordham as the Rams lead the overall series, 8-0-1.
  • These two teams last met back seven years to the date in Orono, ME, as the Rams defeated the Seahawks, 2-0.

Scouting the Rams...
  • Fordham opened the 2022 season on the road at Stony Brook on Thursday evening. The Seawolves scored a pair of goals in the final 2:03 of the match to edge out the Rams.
  • Fordham got on the board first in the 34th minute as Maura Murphy scored off a rebound on a set piece to the top center of the net.
  • The score held until the final moments of the match, when Stony Brook struck twice to win the contest.
  • The Rams have 14 newcomers on their roster for first-year head coach Magnus Nilerud.
  • Caitlin Kennedy led the Rams last season with five goals and 11 points.

Next Up...
  • The Seahawks embark on their first road trip of the season, as they will travel to UMBC on Thursday, August 25 before closing the road trip at Manhattan on Saturday, August 27.
  • Wagner returns home to Hameline Field on Wednesday, August 31 when the Seahawks play host to NJIT.
