Somerset, NJ -- The Northeast Conference (NEC) honored its best and brightest from the 2021-22 spring season with the announcement of its Scholar-Athlete award winners on Wednesday.

All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

It was announced that Wagner women's golf senior Heather McLean was named Northeast Conference (NEC) scholar-athlete of the year for women's golf, marking the 31st time in Seahawks history a student-athlete has received this recognition from the NEC, dating back to the Winter 2004-05 season. Players from 11 different Wagner sports have received this honor. McLean is the first Seahawks golfer to earn the award since Pascalle Tego did so in the spring of 2019.

Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC announced its Spring Academic Honor Roll, consisting 1,570 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average. There were also a record 528 student-athletes named to the spring Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better grade point average.

Over the course of the 2021-22 academic year, a league record 3,826 NEC student-athletes landed a spot on the Academic Honor Roll, a 2.1 bump from last year's all-time mark. That figure also represents over two-thirds of NEC competitors. Likewise, a record 1,473 student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, an astronomical 26.0 percent jump from the previous standard set in 2020-21.
