Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team fell in both games of its senior day doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday. After a 4-1 loss in game one, the two teams battled for 10 innings in game two, as the Knights earned a 3-1 victory in game two.
Prior to the game, the Seahawks honored their senior class in a pregame ceremony.
Game 1 Recap: FDU 4-1 Wagner
The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. After junior
Bianca Worthy reached on an error, senior
Natalie Del Ponte came through with an RBI double to give the Seahawks the lead.
The Knights answered with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Wagner got the tying run to the plate in the sixth and seventh inning, but it wasn't enough, as the Knights earned the victory.
In the circle, sophomore
Scarlett Lloyd was charged with the loss after going the distance, striking out four batters in the process.
Wagner held an 8-3 advantage in hits, with eight different Seahawks registering a hit.
Game 2 Recap: FDU 3-1 Wagner
In a closely contested game, the Knights struck first on a Jess Dewitt solo home run in the top of the sixth.
The Seahawks answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. After freshman
Madi Silber led off the inning with a pinch hit double, Del Ponte tied the game with her second RBI of the series two batters later to knot the game at 1-1.
Both teams did not score for the remainder of regulation, but the Knights added two runs in the top of the 10
th inning to earn the sweep.

Kayla Hooks suffered the loss despite putting in a great effort, striking out eight batters in 10 innings.

Kate Wolf all registered hits offensively for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks and Knights will conclude their three-game series tomorrow at noon in the regular season finale for both teams.
