Ann Arbor, MI – The #13 Wagner College women's water polo team fell to Stanford University, 16-6, in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal on Friday afternoon.
Fifth-year senior
Malia Josephson opened the scoring in the contest as she gave Wagner its lone lead of the contest before Stanford rattled off three consecutive goals. Senior
Sofia Diaz Alvarez tallied the second goal of the game for Wagner cutting the Stanford lead to 3-2. The Cardinal ended the opening quarter on a 3-0 run to take a 6-2 lead into the second stanza.
The second frame was the same story as the Cardinal outscored the Green & White in the quarter, junior
Abbey Simshauser and
Sofia Diaz Alvarez each tallied a goal each in the quarter. Stanford took a 12-4 lead into the halftime intermission.
Sofia Diaz Alvarez tallied the lone goal for Wagner in the third quarter as the Cardinal outscored the Seahawks 3-1 in the third, bringing the contest to 15-5 heading into the final eight minutes.

In her final game as a Seahawk,
Sofia Diaz Alvarez tallied a hat trick, leading all Seahawks.
Abbey Simshauser tallied one goal, dished out two assists, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year also drew four exclusions. Senior goalkeeper
Kristina Bell stopped six shots in the contest.
For Wagner, the 2022 season will be known as the greatest season in program history as they set a new single season win mark with 35, completed the longest winning streak with 18, and placed seven players on the MAAC All-Conference Teams.
