Harvey’s Historic Afternoon Leads Softball To 2-1 Extra Inning Victory Over Merrimack To Extend Win Streak To Eight Games

Staten Island, NY – Behind a career-high 12 strikeouts by senior Eve Harvey, the Wagner College softball team earned a 2-1 extra inning victory over Merrimack on Wednesday.

The reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Pitcher of the Week surpassed 200 career strikeouts while also breaking into the top five in strikeouts in program history, surpassing Cathy Guerriro, who logged 194 K's between 1988 and 1991.

With the win, the Seahawks extend their win streak to eight while improving to 8-0 on Staten Island this season and improving to 6-3 in NEC play.

After the Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Seahawks answered in the fifth inning. Following a leadoff single by senior Makenzie Miller, junior Bianca Worthy and freshman Kate Wolf moved her to third. Next up, Miller scored on a passed ball, tying the game at 1-1.

Neither team scored a run for the remainder of regulation, forcing extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, senior Natalie Del Ponte was hit by a pitch with two outs and advanced to third on a double by senior Mackenzie Vogler. Del Ponte came home on a wild pitch, giving Wagner the victory.

The Seahawks recorded five hits throughout the game, as Miller led the way with two hits on the afternoon.

Next up, Wagner will take the road and travel to Bryant for a three-game series this Friday and Saturday. All games will stream live on NECFrontRow.
