Smithfield, RI – The Wagner College softball team earned a 10-3 victory in game one of Friday's doubleheader at Bryant, before falling 2-1 in nine innings in game two.
With the split, the Seahawks now sit at 7-4 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Bulldogs move to 7-7 in league play.
The loss in game two snapped a nine-game win streak for the Seahawks.
Game 1 Recap: Wagner 10-3 Bryant
The bottom of the order led the Seahawks in game one, as the number eight and nine hitters combined for eight of Wagner's 10 RBIs. Senior
Makenzie Miller went 4-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while junior
Bianca Worthy recorded four RBIs on three hits.
After the Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead in the first, Wagner scored seven runs in the second and third inning to take a commanding lead.
In the second inning, an RBI double by Miller and a two-run single by Worthy along with an RBI by freshman
Kate Wolf made it 4-1 Wagner.
In the third, Miller and Worthy once again recorded RBIs as the Seahawks took a 7-1 lead.
Worthy's third hit of the day gave Wagner an 8-1 lead in the fifth. The Bulldogs added two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, before a towering two-run shot by Miller in the top of the seventh put the exclamation point on Wagner's victory.
The Seahawks combined for 12 hits throughout the contest, with junior
Alexa Garcia was the third Seahawk with three or more hits.
In the circle, senior
Eve Harvey picked up her ninth win of the season, as the reigning NEC Co-Pitcher of the Week struck out four in a complete game win.
Game 2 Recap: Bryant 2-1 Wagner
Following four scoreless innings, the Seahawks took the lead in the top half of the fifth inning.
After Miller reached base with a bunt single, a sacrifice bunt and a flyout moved her to third with two outs.
Senior
Natalie Del Ponte delivered with an RBI single to center field, giving Wagner a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game at 1-1, which eventually forced extra innings.
In the bottom half of the ninth inning, Bryant's Courtney Paolantonio second RBI of the game proved to be the winner for the Bulldogs, who earned the split with a walk-off victory.
In the circle, sophomore
Scarlett Lloyd suffered the loss despite striking out a career-high 11 batters and limiting the Bulldogs to just four hits during the contest.
Offensively, the Seahawks combined for six hits, with senior
Mackenzie Vogler recording two hits.
