Women’s Lacrosse Set To Take On #13 Rutgers On Wednesday Evening

The Wagner women's lacrosse team is set to travel to #13 Rutgers in the final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday evening.

Last Time Out
Wagner dropped its first conference contest of the season, 15-4, at Mount St. Mary's in the 2021 Northeast Conference (NEC) championship rematch on Wednesday, April 6.

With a 4-1 lead after the opening frame, the Mountaineers put a stamp on the contest as they outscored the Seahawks 5-1 in the second quarter to take a 9-2 lead into halftime.

Senior Aileen Hannan caused four turnovers, tallied four draw controls, and scooped three ground balls while classmate and graduate student Stefani Peluso tallied two goals each.

Seahawk Milestones
Stefani Peluso earned her 100th career point in the NEC opener against Central Connecticut State on March 26 behind four goals in the contest. Classmate Madeline Seims tallied her 150th career point as a member of the Green & White against LIU on March 30. For Seims, she moved into sole possession of seventh place in career points and is fourth in career goals with 136.

On the same day, senior goalkeeper Lauren DiStefano notched her 300th career save.

Graduate student Victoria Tucci claimed her 100th career point against Saint Francis U on April 2 while senior Kasey Dorney stands at 99 career points as a member of the Green & White.

Historic NEC Run
Wagner has reached the NEC title game in every season since 2014 while claiming a championship in 2016, 2018, and 2019. During the run to seven consecutive title games, the Green & White have finished second in the regular season in 2021, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, and 2014. Wagner entered the 2017 NEC tournament as the #3 seed. In 2014, the Seahawks entered the season picked seventh in the preseason poll and claimed second in the regular season and earned a trip to the conference championship game.

Wagner currently sits at 3-1 in conference play and is tied for third place with Merrimack.

About #13 Rutgers
The Scarlett Knights enter the contest with Wagner as the #13 team in the country while sporting a 10-3 overall record and a 2-2 mark in Big Ten competition.

In its last contest, Rutgers fell to #3 Northwestern, 21-13 on Saturday. Graduate student Taralyn Naslonski set the program scoring record with 235 career points.

Rutgers entered the season ranked for the first time since joining the Big Ten in 2015, the Scarlett Knights returned the team's top-five scorers from a year ago while bringing back two All-Americans.

What's Next
The Seahawks will resume conference play on Saturday, April 16 when they travel to Merrimack for a 12:00 P.M. start.
