Cambridge, MA – The Wagner women's water polo team defeated #23 Brown, 9-7, extending its winning streak to 13 on Sunday Afternoon.

The final contest of the weekend for Wagner began with junior
Skye Nankervis winning the opening sprint which set up a goal for sophomore
Andrea Arias. Arias tallied her second goal 57 seconds later off an assist from classmate
Mar Navarro to double the Wagner lead.
Skye Nankervis extended the Green & White lead to 3-0 with three minutes remaining in the quarter before the Bears tallied their first goal of the contest.
Wagner held a a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter before Brown launched a 4-1 run in the frame to take a 5-4 lead into the intermission. The lone Wagenr goal was scored by
Andrea Arias, her third of the afternoon.
The two sides went back and forth in the third quarter as they both tallied two goals. Junior
Abbey Simshauser and
Mar Navarro each tallied their first goals of the contest.
Wagner entered the final stanza trailing 7-6 and launched a 3-0 run in the final eight minutes, goals from fifth-year senior
Malia Josephson,
Skye Nankervis, and
Mar Navarro helped Wagner put a stamp on the contest and secure the team's 13th consecutive triumph.
Skye Nankervis found the back of the net on both of her shot opportunities while tallying three steals and four sprint victories.
Andrea Arias tallied a hat trick on seven shots while drawing three exclusions,
Abbey Simshauser tallied one goal to go along with two assists, two steals, and four drawn exclusions. Senior goalkeeper
Kristina Bell stopped nine shots in between the pipes for Wagner.
Inside The Streak
The Seahawks have defeated six ranked opponents and have outscored their opponents 221-71 with an average of 17 goals per contest. The 13-game streak is the third longest in program history, the team is one win away from tying 14-game winning streak back in 2016. The 2017 and 2018 Seahawks each won 17 consecutive contests.
Since the streak began on January 29, the Seahawks have claimed four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly honors as
Kristina Bell has claimed two Defensive Player of the Week honors,
Andrea Arias claimed one Offensive Player of the Week honors and
Carlota Alonso has received one Rookie of the Week honor. Wagner has also claimed two conference victories as they defeated La Salle and St. Francis Brooklyn at the Courtney Fisher Invitational on February 26.
When the streak began, Wagner was #17 in the College Water Polo Association (CWPA) national poll, the Seahawks have been as high as #14 this season. The Green & White currently reside at #15.
The Seahawks will take their winning streak to the west coast next weekend for the Aztec Invitational on the campus of San Diego State University. On Saturday, March 11, Wagner will take on Saint Francis University and #21 San Diego State before taking on #13 UC San Diego and Austin College on Sunday, March 12.
