Softball Earns 5-0 Win Over Santa Clara As Part Of Day Two Split In California

Santa Barbara, CA – The Wagner College softball team earned a 5-0 shutout victory over Santa Clara as part of a split on day two of the Seahawks' road trip to California.
 
In the first game of the day, Wagner fell 12-0 to UCSB.

Wagner got off to a fast start in game two, as freshman Kate Wolf's RBI single scored senior Penelope Russ to give Wagner an early 1-0 lead.
 
In the fourth inning, the Seahawks added to their lead in a big way. An RBI single by freshman Brooke Wood doubled the Seahawks' lead, making it 2-0.
 
Two batters later, sophomore Keaghan Ward came through with the bases loaded, as her RBI double cleared the bases to make it 5-0.
 
In the circle, sophomore Scarlett Lloyd earned the complete game victory for her first victory of the season. Lloyd only allowed four hits, while striking out six. Offensively, the sophomore led Wagner with two hits, as the Seahawks combined for six hits.

The Seahawks combined for three hits throughout the contest, as sophomore Bianca Worthy, Russ, and junior Alexa Garcia all recorded hits.
 
UCSB scored five runs in the second inning, three in the third, and five in the fourth inning to earn the victory.    
 
In the circle, senior Eve Harvey was charged with the loss, while senior Kayla Hooks also saw action in relief.
 
Wagner concludes competition in California against Santa Clara, with first pitch scheduled for 9:30 am PT.
