Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner College softball team fell 5-2 in the final game of its three-game series at Mount St. Mary's to open Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Sunday.
The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by sophomore
Keaghan Ward, which brought home senior
Natalie Del Ponte to give Wagner the early advantage.
The Mount responded in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead, before the Seahawks knotted the game back up in the top of the fourth.
After freshman
Kate Wolf drew a walk, senior
Penelope Russ singled to put two runners on to lead off the frame. Two batters later, sophomore
Scarlett Lloyd's fielder's choice brought home Wolf to tie the game at 2-2.
The Mountaineers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the three-game sweep in the series.
Ward led Wagner with two hits offensively, while senior
Eve Harvey was charged with the loss in the circle in relief of Lloyd, who struck out six in five innings.
The Seahawks return to the action on Tuesday, March 27, as they host Saint Peter's in Wagner's home opener, with first pitch set for 2:00 pm.
